MoDOT Central District News Release
JEFFERSON CITY - As accumulating snow falls today, the Missouri Department of Transportation reminds motorists to use caution on the roadways. MoDOT crews are out across mid-Missouri, working hard to plow snow-covered state routes and make them safe for travel. Please remember to slow down in wet, snowy, or icy conditions; avoid braking or accelerating quickly; find out about driving conditions before you go; and buckle up every time you travel.MoDOT is responsible for 8,228 lane miles of state highway in Central Missouri and follows the following priorities when clearing roadways:Priority 1: Roads with the highest traffic volumes are cleared or treated first. These include interstates and other major routes, which receive continuous treatment throughout a winter weather event.Priority 2: Lower-volume lettered and number routes are cleared next. Traffic on these routes may be impacted until higher volume routes are open and clear.MoDOT encourages motorists to log onto www.modot.org to view the online Traveler Information Map. The map gives drivers current weather-related road conditions for major Missouri highways. Motorists can also call MoDOT's customer service center for road conditions at 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636). The toll-free phone line is answered 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
